The song "The Court of the Crimson King" by King Crimson is an allegorical song about a mythical court of justice, or "court of the crimson king," that is governed by the laws of nature, symbolism and rituals. In the first verse, the singer speaks of the end of oppressive systems that have held him back, symbolized by "rusted chains of prison ā€œIn the Court of the Crimson Kingā€ is really about as good as rock documentaries get, in capturing the essence of a group of musicians and how they relate to each other, the world and a muse whose demands result in literal and figurative calluses.

My first three were In the Court of the Crimson King, Discipline, and Red, in that order (long story). That was in the 90’s, and they’ve released a lot of great (and some not so great) material since then. In any case, I’d recommend those three records for sure, and The Power to Believe as well, just to get started.
